Plattenschau #27 - Geh durch die Stadt

LP (1972)

This one is among our favourite Amiga releases. A stunning GDR record containing funk-rock-jazz-bossa nova and schlager elements. Listen to the superfunky 'Rotes Licht', the smooth brasil-flavoured 'Die Allee' and the drama-funk hit 'Da ist ein Feuer'.

Mix #7 - "Krautsalat - Die Westseite"

Alright ya'll,

We are proud to present to you this fine selection of mostly west-german releases Diskohengst and Achim Funk have collected during the last years. All records are original first pressings and were recorded between the late Sixties and early Eighties. The musical voyage, which we hope to take you on, reaches from Funk, Schlager-Psych and Fusion to Soul, Rare Groove and whatever else you motherfunkers want to call it.

As the title suggests there will be another part – Die Ostseite – coming somewhen next year. Until then we hope that you'll have as much fun with this salad of grooves as we have....

Plattenschau #16 - Radio im amerikanischen Sektor

LP (unknown) Intersound

This cosmic RIAS-release, conducted by the man himself Helmuth Brandenburg, delivers some fine spaced out moments as well as some serious funkyness. We chose two uptempo Groovers to share but this rare library-joint also comes up with laid back electronical sample-stuff. You'll find one of these themes on our upcoming Krautsalat-Mix...which will be totally of the chain!!

Plattenschau #14 - For The People Like Us

Liebe Schallplattenfreunde, Ihr Schallplattenfachexperte möchte ihnen wieder einen bunten Strauß neuer Melodien überreichen und wünscht ihnen viel Freude bei Melodie, Rhythmus und Gesang:

KLAUS LAYER - FOR THE PEOPLE LIKE US
(LP, Redefinition Records, 2014)

The Captain is back with his second Longplayer and once more it's such a blast!

If you are following Klaus for a longer time you'll for sure find some titles you were pumpin the last years in your system. I'm talking bout classics like 'No Joke', 'Comin to your World' or my personal highlight which is at the same time one of my absolutely-favourite-instrumental of all time - 'No Pantomine'! - unbelievable how mighty this monster of a beat comes around and how much power it transfers to me everytime i listen to it.

But the record offers much more, beats like 'Kool', which I had the honor to kick some vocals over together with MC Bomber ("Punchlinegewitter" - Nordachse LP) or 'Animals Garden' are representing what Klaus Layer's sound has been famous for so far - psychedelic boombap instrumentals carried by superheavy drums.

Besides that we get to know new facets, like the ambient-like 'Dreams of Yesterday' and the final 'Symbol of Tomorrow' which stands for what it's named.
In fact Klaus invites us to his very own world full of spirituality, creativity, roughness and above all, love.

Hey Klaus, i'm fucking proud of you. It just gets no realer than this.

And I really really appreciate that one of your two test-pressings for this LP is now in my hands.

In Freundschaft,

MC Shacke

Listen to the whole "For The People Like Us" LP
and don't miss the Record Release Party on 16th August @ Humboldthain Club.
Much love to Redefinition Records.

Immer gut gemeint, irgendjemand, immer gut gemeint, letzte Rille...letzte Rille...letzte Rille.

Plattenschau #11 - Theologie

"Und der Beat, der hier geschlagen wird, läuft nicht mit Gitarren und Schlagzeug in ostinatem Takt,
es ist der "beat" als treibender Rhythmus..."

LP (1969)

Premium Beat-Music from the east right here,
or as they called it back then "Modern Dance Music".

Plattenschau #8 - Funkmaster Fischer

LP (1979)

Funkmaster Günther has produced, composed, arranged and sold tons of records and was one of a few to be allowed giving concerts outside the former GDR. It was Manne Krug who helped him to become a big star and for whose biggest classics Günther arranged some super funky vibrations. Even though nowadays Mr.Krug wouldn't lose any positive word about his old friend as you can read in his open letter, the music is still timeless and representative for the funky "Zone".

Check out this two songs taken from his first self-titled solo LP.

Plattenschau #5 - Krautology

LP (1972) United Artists Records

One of our favorite albums and of our favorite covers of all time!
It's incredible that only a few people in Germany know how much great & funky music came out of their country, especially during the 70s. Since we are digging deep that kind of music, it is one of our aims to show what is out there to discover.

Niagara was founded by mastermind Klaus Weiss as a straight Drum & Percussion project. After their legendary first LP Klaus decided to replace most of the musicians and to add melodic instruments. The outcome is totally off the chain.
By the way, also the great Udo Lindenberg is rocking the drums & percussions on this krautly monster jam.

Plattenschau #2 - Curtain Up

7" (1974)

Give it up for Klaus the Baus, one of the topnotch soul singers from the "Zone"(GDR).
Actually known as MSBs front singer, he released this absolutely mind-blowing SoloSoulShaker in '74, melting elements of Rock, Soul, Funk and Blues to a unique masterpiece. But what makes the record even more impressive is the message of the song: Never lose your own fantasy, even if the circumstances aren't predestinated to express yourself. The MSB debut LP also features an audiolicious live version of the song.

"Tanz wie Du willst, aber tanze, tanze, tanze!"
